About Compass Group Laboratory
Stan Schofield (MaineHealth NorDx) and Bob Stallone (Northwell Health, New York) founded The Compass Group in 2002. The organization formalized its operations in 2005, incorporated in Illinois, and became a 501(c)(6) trade association in 2008.
The Compass Group shares best practices to drive exceptional clinical, quality, and business performance in laboratories while working to ensure the survival and success of the not-for-profit laboratory industry. It is the only organization of laboratory leaders united in this mission.
A paid administrative staff, directed by an active Board of Directors and supported by a committee structure, manages Compass operations.
Compass includes 28 leading IDN members, representing over 800 hospitals and a substantial share of the U.S. diagnostics marketplace. The billed revenue and expenditures of Compass Member Systems and their hospitals on testing platforms, supplies, and services surpass those of most purchasing groups and even the most prominent national commercial laboratories.
The Compass Group holds annual spring and fall meetings organized by members and exclusively sponsored by industry partners. Additionally, quarterly industry-sponsored webinars and monthly First Tuesday™ Zoom sessions keep members engaged.
